A new candidate for smart drug synthesis via silver (I)-NHC complexes

Abstract
In this work, firstly, water-soluble carbene compounds were synthesized in the literature. Secondly, new N-heterocyclic (NHC) metal complexes were obtained from silver (Ag) metal and functional carbene compounds. These syntheses aim to use them in pharmacology as drugs and catalysis of organic reactions. The main skeleton of 5,6-dimethyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole molecule combined with functional bromide groups to form heterocyclic carbenes with symmetrical properties. The NHC precursor compounds reacted with Ag2O to form Ag(I)-NHC complexes. Ag(I)-NHC complexes were characterized by different techniques, such as melting point analysis, conductivity, 1H and 13C-NMR, LC-Mass, FT-IR, TGA, XRD, and UV-vis spectrophotometry. The antimicrobial and antibacterial activities of Ag(I)-NHC complexes were investigated against gram-negative, gram-positive bacteria, and fungi using the disc diffusion method. When the antimicrobial activity of synthesized compounds is examined, the MIC value of compound 4c has shown 0.02 µg/mL. According to this information, the antimicrobial agent property of compound 4c is high.
