It is a lesser known gynaecological disease for most of the general public, affecting almost 10 % of women of reproductive age and can significantly affect the quality of a woman's life. Although there are many theories explaining the etiology and pathogenesis of the disease, a clear cause has not been elucidated. Most often, endometriosis is accompanied by chronic pelvic pain, infertility, dyspareunia, dysmenorrhea. The pain may limit a woman's normal daily activities or work duties and thus have a socioeconomic impact. Psychological problems are not uncommon as a consequence of sexual dysfunction or infertility. Due to the often non-specific symptoms or asymptomatic course, the time to reach a correct diagnosis may take several years. Laparoscopy is performed to confirm the diagnosis.
