Left Atrial Myxoma Presenting as Infective Endocarditis in a Young Woman

Abstract
Abstract Cardiac myxomas are the most common primary myocardial tumors, accounting for one-third to one-half of all postmortem cases and approximately three-quarters of all surgically treated tumors. We present here the case of a 29-year-old young woman with no previous medical history who had an abscess infiltrating a myxoma of the left atrium that went into surgical remission. Differential diseases for left atrium masses may include thrombosis, vegetations, and tumors. These masses are at risk for left ventricular flutter and embolism. However, definitive diagnosis by imaging is difficult, especially in the presence of comorbidities, which play an important role in determining the course of treatment.
