The impact of endometriosis on work-related outcomes: a systematic review.

other OA: green CC0

Abstract

Endometriosis is a chronic disease characterised by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterine cavity, causing severe pelvic pain and dysmenorrhoea, as well as infertility. The estimated incidence is approximately 10-15% in women of reproductive age and 30-35% in infertile women, with a significant impact on public health and socio-economic costs. This systematic review will examine the association between endometriosis and work-related outcomes. The main outcomes considered include absenteeism, presenteeism, work productivity (including decline in work quality) and overall work capacity. Employment status, sick days, wage growth, risk of leaving the labour market and years of work lost will also be assessed. In addition to these, any other parameter related to work productivity will be considered.
