This analysis of Italian PASSI survey data from 2008 to 2015 examines how educational attainment correlates with hysterectomy rates among women aged 25 to 64. The findings indicate that prevalence increases significantly with age, and women with no formal education or only elementary schooling face twice the risk of undergoing the procedure compared to those with university degrees, even when controlling for age and economic status. The authors attribute these disparities largely to physician preference and patient willingness to accept alternative treatments, suggesting that evidence-based protocols could mitigate such non-medical variability. Relevance to endometriosis: listed as one indication for hysterectomy, though the paper's main focus is uterine fibroids.
