The initiative responds to the growing policy momentum around ecosystem restoration and the need for structured, harmonized information to inform planning and decision-making. Data were collected through a dual approach: a systematic review of European Union and national funding databases (including LIFE, INTERREG, and SUDOE) using forest restoration-related keywords, complemented by contributions from expert networks and partner organizations. This allowed the identification of both large-scale projects and small-scale, community-led initiatives often absent from official sources. Projects were screened based on titles and abstracts, and relevant metadata were standardized using an Excel template with custom variables on restoration types, goals, and degradation causes. The resulting dataset includes 382 initiatives implemented fully or partially in Spain. Ecological restoration aimed at conserving species and habitats is the predominant type (18%), while biodiversity conservation or enhancement emerges as the main goal (60%). Wildfires are the leading degradation driver addressed (25%), and the EU LIFE programme is the most frequent funding source (28%). This structured and comprehensive resource offers insights into the diversity, scope, and distribution of restoration efforts across Spain. It provides a valuable foundation for comparative analysis, stakeholder collaboration, and evidence-based policies to advance forest ecosystem restoration and climate adaptation.
