Abstract

Background: Venous thromboembolism is among the common and preventable cardiovascular syndromes. The risk of thromboembolism is increased in elderly and patients with renal failure, and the risk of bleeding due to the use of anticoagulants also increases. Pectoral hematoma due to enoxaparin are presented rarely unlike other bleeding localisation. In this article, 3 cases of pectoral hematoma due to enoxaparin are presented in the light of the literature, especially in this period when the use of anticoagulants is increasing.Case presentationTwo of the 3 cases over the age of 65 were in the intensive care unit, and the other patient received low molecular weight heparin therapy during outpatient follow-up. In these cases enoxaparin use for profilactic and treatment dosages. After anticoagulant using pectoral hematoma was diagnosed by ultrasonography and computed tomography of the thorax in patients. One patient was died from sepsis but in two of other with the discontinuation of the treatment, the size of the hematoma decreased and the treatment change was sufficient.ConclusionLow molecular weight heparins are used in the treatment and prevention of thromboembolism. In elderly and patients with renal failure, care should be taken in terms of pectoral bleeding and other bleeding.
