Abstract
Sabal extracts can be used as aromatase inhibitors. The extracts can be prepd. by treating comminuted fruit of the african dwarf palm sabal serulatum (also known as Serenoa repers) with carbon dioxide under supercritical conditions or by alcoholic extn. of the comminuted fruits. USE/ADVANTAGE - As the sabal extracts are aromatase inhibitors they can be used to treat oestrogen dependent illnesses such as mammary carcinomas, endometriosis, idiopathic gynaecomestia, idiopathic oligozoospermia. Pubertas praecox and premero-pausal bleeding. The extracts can also be used in the prophylaxis and therapy of arteriosclerosis and as antifertility drugs. The sabal extracts have activity similar to that of the known inhibitor, testolactone
