The application of LNG-IUS in the treatment of dysmenorrheal associated with adenomyosis

Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a levonorgestrel releasing intrauterine system(LNG-IUS) in the treatment of dysmenorrheal associated with adenomyosis.Methods:Thirty seven patients with adenomyosis were followed up in 3,6,12 months after treating with LNG-IUS.The menstrual blood volume,dysmenorrheal,size of ulteri and endometrial thickness were observed and evaluated.Results:There were significant differences between mean VAS scores changes of dysmenorrheal and dyspareunia at baseline and 12 months follow up,those of dysmenorrheal dropping from(73±12)to(22±16),(14±18),(10±9),those of dyspareunia dropping from(115.6±56.2) to(56.5±21.3),(38.7±18.9),(18.7±6.3) respectively.Endometrial thickness and CA125 dropping from significantly from(8.0±1.8)and(37.8±14.6) to(4.3±1.9),(4.1±1.5)and(30.6±14.6),(21.9±16.3),Overall 29 women(78.38%)were very satisfied or satisfied with the one year treatment.Conclusion:LING-IUS is an effective and safe therapy for adenomyosis.
