Abstract
This review aims to develop a scoping review of the barriers to endometriosis diagnosis. There is a 7-10 year delay in diagnosing endometriosis, a chronic inflammatory pelvic disease of uncertain cause that has no cure and is diagnosed based on pathology. It is estimated that 10% of women have endometriosis, which has different stages and can cause pain and infertility. How educated are clinicians about the disease, and how do menstrual stigma and taboos affect communication between the patient and provider? The challenges related to the diagnosis of endometriosis will be explored and presented in a review targeting primary care providers treating menstruating women.
