Abstract
Endometriosis is a common gynecologic condition, though cutaneous endometriosis is a rare presentation. Patients with cutaneous endometriosis often have concurrent intra-abdominal disease. We present a case of primary cutaneous endometriosis of the umbilicus with concurrent intra-abdominal endometriosis. The conditions were managed with surgical excision of the cutaneous lesion and diagnostic laparoscopy, respectively. This case outlines the diagnostic process for primary cutaneous endometriosis and its management. Although rare, cutaneous endometriosis should be considered when evaluating a painful umbilical lesion, particularly when symptoms occur cyclically. When this diagnosis is suspected, surgical excision of the cutaneous lesion may be paired with diagnostic laparoscopy to evaluate and manage potential intra-abdominal endometriosis.
