While getting together the material for the study of this subject last year, I was particularly impressed by the fact that epileptic women who were insane and those primary degenerates who were markedly defective and lapsed into dementia during the period of adolescence were practically free from either history or evidence of any menstrual disturbance; also that there were a great many women coming to the hospital, as well as a certain number among those who had been in residence for some time, who were suffering from apparently grave pelvic lesions which had not been recognized before coming to the hospital and of which the patients themselves were not conscious.
