Abstract

The practice of yoga is gaining popularity as an intervention for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Current studies on the feasibility and effectiveness of yoga programs support the benefits of this practice for this clinical population. However, the data remain preliminary and require further research. At present, limited information is provided about the theoretical constructs underpinning the studied yoga programs. This descriptive article aims to detail the conceptual framework that guided the development of the Yoga Bali ASD program for adolescents with autism spectrum disorder and their parents (YBP-A-ASD). Each component is described in relation to the theoretical constructs and scientific literature supporting its various elements. This article can serve as a guide for aligning the development of yoga programs for children and adolescents with ASD and their families with theoretical principles drawn from the scientific literature.
