Abstract
Objective To assess the short-term clinical effects of uterine arterial embolization (UAE) on the treatment of adenomyosis(AM).Methods The standard UAE was performed in 39 patients with AM,39 patients with dysmenorrhea,33 patients with hypermenorrhea, 26 patients with slight or moderate anemia, and 17 patients with myoma. All cases of AM were treated by UAE.The catheter was placed into the both uterine arteries by Seldinger and pingyangmycin-lipiodol-gelform were injected. The therapeutic effects were followed up for 1,3 and 6 months. Results In all 39 patients, the remission rates of dysmenorrhea and hypermen- orrhea were 97.6%(P0.01) and 100%(P0.01),respectively.Hemoglobin in 26 patients with anemia became normal 3~6 months after the UAE therapy. The size of uterus and the volume of tumor reduced by 43.2%(P0.01) and 59.0%(P0.01) 6 months aRer the UAE therapy. No severe complications happened. Conclusion UAE has a good short-term clinical effectiveness in the treatment of AM though its long-term clinical effectiveness needs to be testified.
