Abstract
ABSTRACT A 4 5 - y e a r -old woman presented to the surg i c a loutpatient with an umbilical nodule of one year’ sduration. The umbilical nodule was diagnosed asmetastatic adenocarcinoma by fine needle aspirationcytology. She was investigated thoroughly and there wasno evidence of any recognisable underlying condition forsuch a diagnosis. Awide surgical excision of the nodulewas performed and histopathology excluded malignancybut confirmed the diagnosis of endometriosis. Umbilicalendometriosis is a very rare surgical condition but shouldbe considered in the diff e r ential diagnosis of anyumbilical nodule.
