Using data from the 2023 Enhancing Financial Innovation and Access (EFInA) survey, comprising 10,746 households, the research applies a binomial probit regression to assess how different cooking technologies affect health outcomes, including visual impairment, hearing loss, and movement difficulty. The findings indicate that using gas cookers mitigates the probability of visual impairment by 0.5% points in comparison with kerosene stoves. On the other hand, cooking with charcoal increases the likelihood by 0.5% points. Households using electric cookers, kerosene stoves, or charcoal/wood for cooking have reduced probabilities of experiencing movement difficulties by 1.2, 1.3, and 10% points, respectively. However, using a gas cooker increases the likelihood of mobility difficulties by 1.6% points compared to other cooking methods. These findings were further robust-checked using Firth’s bias-corrected logit regression models, confirming the robustness of the results. The study underscores the health risks associated with unclean cooking energies and indoor air pollution. By focusing on public health and environmental sustainability, it sheds light on the dangers posed by traditional cooking methods.
