article OA: green CC0

Abstract

Endometriosis is an enigmatic disease which is defined by implantation of functioning endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. According to statistical data, nearly 10-15 % women during their reproductive period of life endure endometriosis. Whereas about 25-50 % of women diagnosed with infertility are found to be suffering from Endometriosis. An Ayurvedic physician can diagnose and treat a disease clinically depending on Nidana (cause), Doshas, Dushyas (vitiation) and Udbhavasthana (origin), even though the physician is not able to put an exact name for it. Various syndromes such as Dysmenorrhea, Dysuria, Dyspareunia, Dyschezia, Pelvic pain etc. were corelated with Ayurvedic diseases like Asrigdara, Pradara, Yonivyapat etc. that are mentioned in Ayurvedic text. Objective of this review is to take an account of the Ayurvedic aspect on basic conceptuality of endometriosis and its preventive measures along with Ayurvedic treatments. Ayurvedic scriptures, textbook of gynecology and research publications were consulted and reviewed for the present work. The extensive literature survey redirects prevention and curative management of endometriosis. This study aims to breeze the modern syndromes with Ayurvedic diseases. Ayurvedic fundamental concept facilitated to understand the disease prognosis. Numerous Ayurvedic researchers and Acharyas mentioned their treatment procedures which is applicable for Endometriosis. It is concluded that Ayurveda not only focuses on key prospects of endometriosis but also on all its associated precursors and post endometriosis symptoms with its reasoning and treatment measures.
