Strengthening the Pediatric Radiation Oncology Workforce through Digital Learning: A Capacity-Building Pilot from Pakistan

Abstract

Pediatric radiation oncology faces significant workforce and training gaps globally. In July 2024, a virtual workshop was piloted to improve radiation therapy planning competencies for pediatric sarcomas. The program combined didactic lectures, contouring exercises, and expert feedback. Despite technical challenges, participants reported increased confidence and strong engagement. This initiative demonstrates the potential of digital learning in resource-limited settings and underscores the need for structured pediatric radiation oncology education. Future efforts seek to enhance institutional participation, develop standardized curricula, and integrate training into residency programs to advance pediatric radiation therapy practice and improve care delivery across the region.
