New Thermodynamic Potential in Classical Thermodynamics

Abstract
The article introduces the reader to the new thermodynamic potential of classical thermodynamics, called the J-potential. For the case of a homogeneous system, it vanishes, but it perfectly serves multiphase (heterogeneous) systems. The J-potential is especially important for the thermodynamics of capillary systems in colloidal science. The J-potential simplifies the derivation of the Neumann and Young equations, and has found application in the thermodynamics of thin films and the theory of strength of materials. In this work, for example, it was used to study the dependence of the chemical potential of a substance of a small bubble on the bubble size.
