Abstract

This study analyses the role of board directors in achieving and maintaining organisational future-preparedness. It uncovers current practices, investigates the extent to which board members think these are adequate, or what else may be done, and where the balance lies between directors and management executives in this matter. The findings are based on an academic research project by the Aarhus University Strategic Foresight Research Network, in association with the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies. During the first half of 2021, the authors conducted in-depth interviews with 25 non-executive directors and board Chairs currently in post at listed European companies.
