Abstract

Adenomyosis is a benign gynecological disease of the myometrium. It has a prevalence of 5-70% in hysterectomy specimens in the United States of America. Certain diseases co-exist with adenomyosis, such as endometrial hyperplasia, carcinoma and fibroids. Fibroids are difficult to distinguish from adenomyosis, particularly when focal. A correct diagnosis of adenomyosis was made in 12.5 % of cases in this study. This may be due to the rarity of the disease, and the low index of suspicion among radiologists in this part ofthe world.
