Abstract

Abstract Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans are most common bacterial and fungal agents responsible for blood stream infections. The studies have shown that about 20% of all Candida albicans infections occur with Staphylococcus aureus and are polymicrobial in nature. These species can lead to hospital-acquired infections as they have the ability to form persistent biofilms in medical devices. Development of novel therapeutic agents are required to target these polymicrobial infections. The present work focuses on synthesis, characterization, antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity of pyrazolone based lanthanide metal chelates. The Sm(III) and Dy(III) complexes showed promising antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity towards Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans respectively.
