The effects of the remedy for subclinical hypothyroidism during pregnancy on the mothers and their offspring

Objective: To investigate the effect of levothyroxine (L-T 4 ) intervention on pregnant women and their offspring with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) during pregnancy. Methods: : 46 pregnant women who were hospitalized in the endocrine metabolism department and obstetric clinic of the second hospital of Lanzhou University from April 2013 to December 2014 were selected. According to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, they were divided into a case group (21 cases in the hypothyroidism group during pregnancy) and a normal control group (25 cases). Pregnant women in the case group were given L-T 4 intervention to maintain their thyroid function at the ideal standard as soon as possible. Pregnant women in the control group were observed, and all pregnant women were followed up for pregnancy complications and obstetric outcomes, All offspring were assessed with Gesell scale when they were 2-3 years old. All subjects were followed up until December 2016. Results: : There was no significant difference in pregnancy complications, obstetric outcomes and Gesell scale scores of 2-3 years old offspring between the two groups. Conclusions: : Early intervention with L-T 4 in gestational Sch has a positive effect on pregnancy complications, adverse obstetric outcomes and neurointelligence development of offspring aged 2-3 years.
