Endometriosis is an estrogen dependent disease, which causes chronic inflammation and may lead to pelvic pain and infertility. Women with endometriosis have a higher risk for ovarian epithelial cancer. To evaluate the risk factors for benign ovarian cysts, the data were collected in a case-control study conducted in the Central clinical hospital № 6 of Russian Railways based on 114 women with benign cysts (80 endometrioid and 34 serous or mucinous) of the ovary and 200 controls groupe.
