Thrombin activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor as an indicator of the severity of acute pancreatitis.
This prospective study evaluated the utility of Thrombin Activatable Fibrinolysis Inhibitor (TAFI) levels in assessing the severity of acute pancreatitis among 92 patients. Researchers categorized participants into mild, moderate, and severe groups according to the revised Atlanta classification and analyzed various biochemical and inflammatory markers. The results indicated that TAFI concentrations were significantly higher in patients with complicated forms of the disease compared to those with mild cases. Furthermore, TAFI demonstrated superior discriminatory ability for identifying severe acute pancreatitis when compared to other inflammatory biomarkers like C-reactive protein and fibronectin. The paper does not explicitly discuss endometriosis or adenomyosis; it was included in the corpus via a keyword match in the upstream search index.
