Abstract

This chapter will review the surgical management of deeply infiltrating endometriosis involving the bowl. With advancements in imaging diagnostics modalities evaluating deeply infiltrating endometriosis, surgeons are provided with clearer assessment of the pelvic anatomy and endometriosis involvement. Mapping the pelvic and abdominal anatomy will assist endometriosis specialists in devising the best surgical approach with proper patient counseling. This chapter will provide a systematic approach to patient care with special attention to their treatment goals. From clinic evaluation through a good history, physical exam, and identification of proper imaging modalities to the various surgical techniques for tackling bowel endometriosis will be identified. Moreover, the chapter will enable the surgeon to devise a clear follow-up plan with a review of medical options for symptom management, including hormonal suppression. This chapter will further provide literature evidence associated with each technique. In conclusion, this chapter provides more insight into the surgical management of bowel endometriosis with a comprehensive review of evidence-based practice to ensure the best course of outcome for our patients
