In this study of patients with chronic back pain being evaluated for spine surgery, in-vivo assessment of MEP was uncorrelated with pre-surgical pain, interference, or physical function. In support of our hypothesis, however, patients exhibiting greater preoperative MEP demonstrated greater improvement in pain interference one month after spine surgery. Digital technology can be leveraged to improve treatment recommendations for patients with chronic pain.
