Abstract

To find out the correspondency between the ultrasonography and CD10 expression. The morphological characteristics from transvaginal and/or transabdominal sonography in 143 cases of benign ovarian lesions were evaluated against the corresponding CD10 immunohistochemical results in each. Statistical analysis was performed with Stata 7.0 and CHISS 1.0 software. The differences were checked with × 2 test. Sensitivity, specificity and veracity of ultrasonography in detecting endometriotic cysts were found to be 95.1%, 93.1% and 93.7% respectively in the 143 cases. The veracity of ultrasonography in diagnosing grade ?ñ endometriotic cysts was 80.0%. The sonographic findings were also found to have some correspondency with CD10 results, but no significant statistical difference was found between them (P ? 0.05). CD10 staining, while negative in ovarian abscess, seroadenoma and mucinousadnoma cysts showed positive expression in 97.6% of the endometriotic cysts in our cases. Showed that CD10 is of statistical value in differentiating ovarian endometriotic cysts from other benign ovarian lesions (P < 0.001). Ultrasonography is a valuable method for finding out early features of endometriotic cysts, and of suggestive value in early clinical staging. CD10 immunoreactivity, however, is helpful in further confirming the diagnosis of endometriotic cysts.
