Phygital Enjoyment of the Landscape. Walkability and Digital Valorisation of the Phlegraean Fields

The contemporary territory is characterised by a juxtaposition of complex values involving articulated dynamics linked to the use of the most significant spaces and essential ecosystem services by different categories of users. Indeed, some valuable landscape areas suffer from increasing anthropogenic pressures due to the exponential growth of mass tourism. This situation is often exacerbated by a lack of landscape awareness by local users: in this sense, there is value in raising awareness of heritage through direct exploration practices, in relation to the walkability concept, while the digital dimension may expand the information available without prevailing over the physical enjoyment of the landscape, according to the definition of the phygital approach. In this frame, the contribution will deepen the case of the Phlegraean Fields, a landscape unit with high archaeological-ecological value, characterised by strong anthropic and tourism pressures. A methodological approach is proposed, based on the application of different digital and participatory tools aimed at acquiring territorial data relating to expert and non-expert knowledge. The present research is part of the PNRR project aimed at promoting the resources of the Phlegraean area in a strategic way for local development and entitled Changes ‘PE5Changes_Spoke1-WP4-Historical Landscapes Traditions and Cultural Identities’.
