Abstract

[Objective] To investigate clinical long term and short term complications of classic intrafascial SEMM hysterectomy (CISH). [Methods] The clinical retrospective study included 108 women who underwent operations from January 1999 to April 2002. All women were subjected to a classic intrafascial SEMM hysterectomy. The average age of the patients was 44.98 years (34~50). Of the 108 cases, 78 had uterine fibroid, 12 had refractory dysfunctional uterine bleeding, 18 had adenomyosis. 23 women underwent lower abdominal surgery previously. [Results] In the 108 patients who underwent CISH,the short term complications were mainly colporrhagia, and hematocele of cervical stump; and the long term complications were mainly hydrops of cervical stump. Among 92 cases who were visited in postoperative period, 12 cases had colporrhagia (10.87%,12/108); 1 case had vaginal hypersecretion (1.09%,1/92); 16 cases had hydrops of cervical stump (17.39%,16/92); 3 cases had tumor of stump (3.26%,3/92); the incidence of satisfaction of sexual activity was 97.65% (83/85). [Conclusions] Classic intrafascial SEMM hysterectomy (CISH) is a safe, effective and reproducible procedure after proper training. To treat cervical stump properly is an important way for decreasing complications of CISH.
