Abstract

ISEE-923 Objective: The past studies discovered Dioxin appertain to Endocrine disrupter, exposure to dioxin will cause abnormal metabolism of estrogen in women in the reproductive age. This leads to the development of gynecological diseases, such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, and leiomyoma which is caused by the abnormal metabolism of estrogen. The aim is to discover the relation between exposure to the dioxin environment and estrogen dependent disease. Material and Methods: This is a matched case control study of participants from the Department of obstetric and gynecology in Kaohsiung Medical University hospital, between January 2005 and December 2006, in southern Taiwan. There were a total of 72 subjects aged between 25 and 45 (Case = 26, Control = 46). Samples were analyzed by HR/GC MS for dioxin concentration in serum. Data analysis was done by Independent t-test, Fisher exact test and Logistic regression. Results: The primary analyze shows total PCDFs, total PCDDs, and total PCBs are significantly higher in the cases than in the controls (P value = 0.001, 0.027, 0.010). They were then adjusted for age, pairty, and breast feeding by logistic regression. Total PCDFs and total PCDDs (OR, 95% CI = 1.80, 1.23–2.64; 3.60, 0.96–13.39), total PCDDs/PCDFs and total dioxin/PCBs (OR, 95% CI = 5.50, 1.39–21.74; 4.42, 1.24–15.70) were shown. Conclusions: This data presented an approach 4-fold increase risk of the development of estrogen dependency disease that maybe associated with exposure in dioxin/PCBs, and also shows the estrogen dependency disease and body burden of dioxin concentration higher than the control. Further study and analyzes are expected to continue to find stronger evidence.
