VESICAL ENDOMETRIOSIS

Endometriosis, which is a pathological condition referring to the presence of endometrical tissue apart from its normal location, is observed in women in rather a high incidence of about 10-20% according to Sampson (1925) or Jenkinson (1943), and is most commonly found in the ovaries, the fallopian tubes, the broad and round ligament, the cervix, the vaginal wall, the peritoneum and the cul de sac of Douglas.On the other hand, endometriosis of the urinary tract is extremely rare.However, the bladder, being in close proximity of the pelvic organs may be affected enough to draw attentions of the urologists.Blum & Fruhling (1951) in their report of the third case of endometriosis of the kidney reviewed the literature on involvement of the urinary tract and found 75 cases of endometriosis of the bladder, only two of the kidney and two of the ureter.In the Japanese literature only sixteen cases have been reported since the first case of Kawakami which was reported in 1927.In this paper we would like to present the seventeenth case of vesical endometriosis, which was recently experienced in our clinic, and also review the Japanese literature on this condition. CASE REPORTA Japanese woman, aged 28, married, complaining chiefly of frequency of urination, dysuria and pain in the hypogastrium, was admitted to the , Tokyo, June, 1954.In her family history it was only noted that her father died of lung tuberculosis at the age of 48.Her past history showed that she suffered from pneumonia in her seventh and twelfth years of age.In her 19 years of age she also suffered from syphilis and gonorrhea, and when 24 years old she further fell ill with pleuritis sicca dextra and all these diseases were completely cured according to appropriate treating measures.
