The role of E-cadherin on the diagnosis and prognosis of endometriosis

[Objective] To investigate the role of E-cad on the diagnosis and prognosis of endometriosis. [Methods] The level of E-cad in the serum of endometriosis patients was compared with that of the control group by using the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. The endometriosis patients included different stages patients, preopetative and postopetative patients. [Results] The level of E-cad in serum of endometriosis patients was significantly higher than that of control group(P 0.05). The level of E-cad in the serum of both Ⅲ stage and Ⅳ stage endometriosis patients was higher than that of Ⅰand Ⅱstage patients. But the difference between them was not statistically significant. The level of E-cad in the serum of postopetative patients was lower than that of preopetative patients. [Conclusions] E-cad may play a role on the morbidity of endometriosis. Though the increase of the level of E-cad in serum is independent of the severity of endometriosis, it is correlated with the prognosis of endometriosis.
