Disclosed are selective estrogen receptor modulators containing a phenylsulfonyl group that are represented by formula (I) wherein the variables are as defined in the specification, a pharmaceutical acid addition salt thereof these compounds are useful, e.g., for treating endometriosis and/or uterine leiomyoma/leiomyomata.
