Expression of Leptin and Leptin Receptor in Endometrium of Ectopic and Eutopic of Ovarian Endometriosis
Leptin and its receptor were expressed in ectopic and eutopic endometrium, with lower levels in ectopic endometrium compared to eutopic and control tissues.

This study examined the expression of leptin and the leptin receptor (Ob-R) in ectopic and eutopic endometrium from 25 patients with surgically confirmed ovarian endometriosis, comparing them with 24 control subjects with uterine myoma, using immunohistochemistry (SP method) on glandular epithelial cells and stromal cells. Leptin and Ob-R were detected in both ectopic and eutopic endometrial tissues and in control normal endometrium, with leptin higher in glands than stroma within group A, while stromal leptin in group A was lower than in group B and controls. Although leptin receptor expression in group A glands was lower than in group B and controls, there were no significant differences in stromal receptor expression, and leptin receptor did not differ by menstrual phase in group A versus controls. The authors conclude that the lower expression of leptin and Ob-R in ectopic lesions suggests limited involvement of the leptin system in ovarian endometriosis development. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it directly measures leptin and leptin receptor expression in ectopic versus eutopic endometrium in ovarian endometriosis.
