Women with polycystic ovary syndrome need consultation support from the health care providers: A Qualitative Study

Abstract
Background: Despite the fact that women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) experience many psychological problems, the need of these women to planning appropriate to improve their mental health seems to be ignored. Therefore, this study will conduct to exploring needs of women's with PCOS using a qualitative approach in Iranian sociocultural context. Methods Five women with PCOS and seven health care providers participated in individual semi-structured interviews. Sampling was purposive and continued until data saturation was reached. Data analysis was based on conventional content analysis. The validity of the data was verified through measures including credibility, transferability, dependability, confirmability and authenticity. Results Data analysis yielded 3 main categories and 7 sub categories including: (1) Need to reassurance and consultation by health care providers (The positive effect of health care providers counseling on the patient's psychological, Importance of receiving confidence from the health care providers that the disease can be controlled); (2) providing counseling services to improve patient awareness and stress management (Patient stress due to receiving insufficient information about the disease and its complications, the health care provider neglects to provide the patient with comprehensive information on how to manage and treat the disease and (3) the importance of Providing consulting services by a multidisciplinary team (The health care provider neglect of patients' psychological health, proposing the establishment of a specialized place to receive care by a multidisciplinary team, the positive effect of providing services as by a multidisciplinary team to improve the patient's psychological condition). Conclusion Controlling the psychological problems of woman with PCOS needs the consultation support of health care providers and comprehensive and long-term planning by a multidisciplinary team to promote the mental health of these women.
