Elastography Improves the Accuracy of Ultrasound in the Preoperative Assessment of abdominal wall endometriosis
Elastography significantly improved the accuracy of ultrasound in assessing abdominal wall endometriosis depth, unaffected by BMI, compared to B-mode alone.

This study evaluated whether ultrasound elastography improves the preoperative localization of abdominal wall endometriosis (AWE) compared with B-mode ultrasound alone in 33 patients scheduled for surgical excision. Using transabdominal ultrasound with an added elastography (alpha-blend) option, lesions were categorized by depth (superficial/intermediate/deep) and findings were verified intraoperatively; surgeons were blinded to elastography results, and the influence of obesity was assessed. B-mode alone correctly located AWE in 33.3% of cases, whereas adding elastography increased accuracy to 87.9% (p < 0.05), with decreased ultrasound accuracy in overweight/obese patients that was not seen when elastography was added. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it focuses on elastography improving the preoperative ultrasound assessment of abdominal wall endometriosis infiltration depth.
