Abstract

One hundred and fifty one patients with adenomyosis were studied clinically and pathologically among 880 hysterectomies in the gynecologic ward, during the period from 1, Oct. 1971 to 31, Sep., 1981. The results were summarized as follows; 1. 15l cases of adenomyosis were detected among 880 cases of the surgically removed uteri (17.2%). 2. Age incidence was highest in 40 to 49 year group, 58.3%. 3. Adenomyosis was much more frequently found in parous women than non-parous women (90.1% and 9.9% respectively). 4. Menometrorrhagia was the most common symptom of adenomyosis (63.6% of all cases). 5. The common associated pelvic pathologic findings were chronic cervicitis and myoma uteri (31.8% and 27.8% respectively). 6. l2.6% of 151 cases of adenomyosis was combined with pelvic endometriosis. 7. In cases with myomas, 57.0% of them were over 200 gms in weight. 8. Endometrial findings showed proliferative phase in 40.4%. 9. According to the degree of extension of the lesion, the sevtrity of the symptoms and signs were more increased. 10. There was no direct relationship between the incidence of adenomyosis and previous laparotomy, including Cesarean section. But there was significant relation with multiple induced aborticn group.
