Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of three drugs on treating for ovarian endometrial cysts(OEC) under ultrasound guided puncture (USGP).Methods The total of 86 OEC with USGP therapy through transvaginal and/or abdominal pathway were treated by variant drugs under USGP respectively, including 35 cysts treated by 99.9 % alcohol (group E 1), 25 cysts treated by 2.5 %~ 5.0 % tetracycline (group E 2) and 26 cysts treated by 150 mg/ml Depot provera (group E 3). After USGP the patients were followed up regularly for six months. Results Thirty two of 35 ( 91.4 %) OEC were cured in group E 1, 16 of 25 ( 64.0 %) in group E 2 and 22 of 26 ( 84.6 %) in group E 3. There were significantly differences in the cure rate among three groups (P 0.05 ). Total of 70 of 86 ( 81.4 %) cysts disappeared in the present study. The size of other 16 cysts also became smaller after treatment. So total effective rate was almost as 100%. No recurrence was found after 24 months follow up survey. The larger the cyst, the longer the disappeared time of cyst. Most of cysts that was smaller than 6cm in diameter disappeared within 3 months. Conclusions The USGP therapy is a high effective, reliable, safe and economic method to treat OEC.As a sclerosis agent to treat OEC,Depot provera is not local irritation and can treat endometriosis simultaneously.
