Abstract
To perform a systematic review of studies comparing the diagnostic accuracy of TVS and MRI in Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis (DIE). An extensive search of papers comparing TVS and MRI in DIE was performed in Medline (Pubmed) and EMBASE from January 1989 to January 2016. Quality was assessed using QUADAS-2 tool. Our search identified 10 citations but we finally examined the full text of the 6 articles. Overall pooled estimated sensitivity and specificity od TVS and MRI for diagnosing DIE involving recto-sigmoid, uterosacral ligaments and rectovaginal septum are shown in the table. No significant differences were found two methods. Heterogeneity was moderate or high for sensitivity and specificity for TVS and MRI in most locations assessed. Risk of bias was low for most studies. Overall diagnostic performance of TVS and MRI for detecting DIE involving recto-sigmoid, uterosacral ligaments and rectovaginal septum is similar. 0.85 I2: 82.7 0.96 I2: 78.3 0.85 I2: 46.8 0.95 I2: 85.0 0.59 I2: 88.4 0.97 I2: 67.2 0.66 I2: 63.6 0.97 I2: 79.7 0.67 I2: 41.5 0.86 I2: 54.8 0.70 I2: 83.1 0.93 I2: 14.2
