Abstract
A clinical trial of the new compounds Ovidon and Rigevidon is reported. Ovidon was administered to 1138 women for a total of 12,588 cycles and Rigevidon to 153 patitnts for 1481 cycles. Hormonal investigation of 10 normal fertile women before and during contraceptive treatment was designed to shed light on the mechanism of action of the drugs. Both showed a 100% contraceptive efficiency, whereas pregnancy resulted only from errors in the pill-taking schedule. Side effects were considerably less frequent when compared to other oral contraceptives and disappeared spontaneously within 2-3 treated cycles. Rigevidon and Ovidon can also be used to treat metrorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, and endometriosis. (author's modified)
