Abstract

Objective: To investigate the variation and correlation of estrogen receptor (ER), progestin receptor (PR) and microvessel count (MVC) in adenomyosis after treatment with low-dose mifepristone. Methods: The experimental group (A) included 28 cases with adenomyosis, confirmed by post-operative histological diagnosis were required to take mifepristone 12.5 mg/d for three months. The control group (B) included 30 patients without any ovarian hormone drug treatment. All specimens were treated by same method. The values of ER, PR and MVC were detected by immunohistochemical assay, and the relationship was analyzed in two groups. Results: The positive rates of ER were 75% and 86.67% in group A and group B respectively. The positive rates of PR were 78.57% and 96.67% in two the groups.Microvessel count of group A(75.1±7.8,total of 5 scopes 200 ×) was less than that of group B (90.4±8.7, total of 5 scopes 200 ×, P 0.05). The average area of microvessel of group B (2 334.0 μm2±129.4 μm2, total of 5 scopes 200 ×) was more than that of group A (783.3 μm2±54.2 μm2, total of 5 scopes 200 ×,P 0.01). Conclusion:The low-dose mifepristone could regulate the expression of PR in adenomyosis.Mifepristone may play a role in treating adenomyosis by inhibiting angiogenesis and reducing microvessel area.
