Abstract

Abstract Through the analysis of numeric evaluation and comments to teachers (n = 3665) on the platform MisProfesores.com, the importance assigned by students to Soft Skills (SS) and Hard Skills (HS) was assesed, contrasting pre-registered hypotheses and performing qualitative explorations. Textual analysis techniques were used to quantify the references to SS and HS in comments, analyzing their relationship with the numeric evaluation and exploring the vocabulary used to evaluate excellent teachers. The results suggest that comment language is significantly related to numeric evaluation, and that references to SS are better at predicting it than references to HS. Qualitative analyzes suggest that, although the SS are especially salient when evaluating a teacher as excellent, the HS are not ignored but presupposed. Keywords: teacher attitudes, teacher evaluation, text analysis, social skills, professional knowledge.
