This narrative review synthesized research published from 2000 to 2021 to examine the psychological impact of endometriosis on adolescent girls, searching PubMed, Medline, and Scopus using combinations of adolescence/young women and endometriosis with terms related to psychologic factors, emotions, well-being, and quality of life. Across included studies, the review reports that endometriosis symptoms are associated with substantial impacts on psychological well-being, including physical pain and reductions in general health and vitality, as well as poorer physical and social functioning and limitations in emotional functioning. A stated limitation is that there are not enough studies specifically addressing psychological impacts of endometriosis during adolescence. This paper is centrally about endometriosis—specifically the psychological effects of endometriosis on adolescent girls’ life.
