Abstract

AIM: To explore the uterine infusion of cisplatin in treating dysfunctional uterine bleeding. METHODS: Ten cases with dysfunctional uterine bleeding and no further desire for pregnancy were selected. 10 mg cisplatin was diluted to 10 mL and 6 to 8 mL was infused into the uterine of every case once a week. Four times made up one course of treatment. RESULTS: After treatment, 6 from the 10 cases with menorrhagia displayed significantly diminished menstrual flow. Menstruation of the other 4 cases with previous lengthened menstrual bleeding became normal. Endometrium of 6 cases with endometrial hyperplasia ( n =4), cystic glandular hyperplasia ( n =1) and adenomatous hyperplasia ( n =1) was transformed as secretive phase of endometrium after one course of treatment. CONCLUSION: Uterine infusion of cisplatin can transform inversely histological change of endometrium, decrease menstrual flow as well as shorten the bleeding duration, which can be applied in the treatment of dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
