Abstract

Objective:To detect the concentrations of platelet derived growth factor(PDGF),vascular cellular adhesion molecule-1(VCAM-1) in sera and peritoneal fluid of patients with endometriosis and study their possible role in the development of endometriosis. Methods: Forty patients with endometriosis pathologically diagnosed after operation were selected as endometriosis group, with 17 patients at stageI-II and 23 at stage III-IV.Twenty patients without endometriosis were as control. The levels of PDGF,VCAM-1 in their sera and peritoneal fluid were measured by the method of ELISA.Results: It was found that the expressions of both PDGF and VCAM-1 in patients with endometriosis were significantly higher than those in controls(P0.01).The expression of PDGF,VCAM-1 in sera and peritoneal fluid correlated with the stage of the disease, with the higher levels of both PDGF and VCAM-1 at stage III-IV than at stageI-II(P0.05).There was a positive correlation between PDGF and VCAM-1 levels in the patients with endometriosis(P0.05). Conclusions:The expressions of PDGF and VCAM-1 are elevated in women with endometriosis, which may play an important role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.
