Abstract
This paper introduces the infinite principle: a mathematical framework proving that optimism is the rational choice when comparing bounded and unbounded outcomes. Rooted in expected value theory, the principle demonstrates that any option with unbounded upside mathematically dominates alternatives with bounded outcomes, provided the downside is finite and the probability of success is non-zero. This reframes optimism from a subjective outlook to an objective, mathematical necessity. With applications in entrepreneurship, psychology, and existential philosophy, the infinite principle offers a rigorous foundation for decision-making across disciplines. By formalizing this insight, we show that pursuing unbounded potential is not merely hopeful—it is mathematically inevitable.
