Estimation of Tidal Potential Energy in the South China Sea: A Study Using Semi-Empirical Tide Model Data
preprint
OA: closed
Abstract
The study delves into a thorough assessment of the tidal potential energy, utilizing comprehensive semi-empirical tide models. These datasets were meticulously examined for their efficacy, encompassing 34 tidal stations along the study area's coastal region. Notable efficacy is discernible within the FES2014, DTU16, and EOT20 datasets, underscoring their adeptness in providing precise prognostications of tidal patterns, with FES2014 emerging as particularly adept. The dataset highlights locations (in the South China Sea) with significant tidal amplitudes and consequential energy potential, including Anpu Gang, Bac Lieu, and the Batang Lupar estuary. The influential role of the semi-diurnal component (M 2 ) in dictating energy distribution is prominently evident.
