Endometriosis of the urinary tract(Report of 11 cases)

Objective:To present our experience in managing 11 cases of endometriosis with urologic involvement in our hospital.Methods:Clinical data of 11 cases of patients with endometriosis involving urinary tract had been analysed retrospectively,of which,4 affected bladder and 7 affected ureter.Partial cystectomy had been carried out in cases with involved bladder and segmental ureterectomy or nephrectomy in cases with involved ureter.Hormone therapy was given to patients of reproductive age after surgery.Results:The ectopic lesions in all patients were removed.The obstruction of the urinary tract in two urethral cases relieved.10 cases were symptomless and only 1((9.1)%,1/11)recurred.Conclusions:Urinary tract endometriosis usually causes obstruction and further kidney function impairment if not treated in time.Surgery is the definitive solution for urinary tract endometriosis.Therefore,a high index of suspicion is necessary,and genitourinary endometriosis should be considered in all symptomatic women with a history of cesarean delivery or other gynecologic surgery.Surgical treatment is effective.In those who desire future fertility,hormonal therapy is often recommended.
