Abstract

Vaginismus is a female sexual dysfunction with complex etiology. It is characterized by involuntary contraction of the musculature of the distal third of the vagina. It prevents penile penetration and the use of internal tampon and speculum. Physical therapy has resources for specialized and individualized treatment of body awareness, behavioral rehabilitation and strengthening and relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles. Interferential current can be an alternative as it can be used externally and superficially.
